Use Cloudflare DNS with integrated parental controls

Cloudflare has just released « 1.1.1.1 for families« , new DNS servers with integrated parental controls. Unlike its standard DNS server 1.1.1.1 which does not perform any filtering, these new DNS resolvers dedicated to families block malware and adult content. And they are completely free 🙂!Personally, I have been using Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1) since their releases. I find that they are faster than my ISP’s (Internet Service Provider’s) DNS servers. In addition, they support DNS over HTTPS (DoH) to increase security and privacy.

"Options to create whitelists and blacklists specific to certain websites. You will be able to set the times of the day when categories, such as social networks, are blocked and get reports on your household Internet usage."

The concept

Cloudflare parental controls work the same way as OpenDNS parental controls. When a device on your network tries to connect to a malicious or adult site, Cloudflare DNS blocks the attempt and responds with a DNS error. Like all filtering solutions, Cloudflare‘s database is not perfect and does not block all malicious or adult domains. But it can reduce security threats and prevent casual access to many adult websites.
